Insurance is a very emotive, miss-understood and often ignored subject, as cargo is most vulnerable whilst being transported or warehoused. Especially if the packaging is not designed for multiple handling and movements, leading to potential damage or even loss, both of which can have a direct impact on your cost of business. It is the responsibility of the owner of goods to decide if they wish insure their consignments or rely on carrier’s limited liability or even self insure, whichever they deem the most commercially responsible.
Please do not assume that your goods are automatically insured by a warehousekeeper or haulier, as this is not the case. Yes they will have their own insurance policies in place but these will be subject to cover under their trading terms & conditions, which may not cover the value of your goods.
Our recommendation is that owners insure their cargo for loss or damage and arrange both Storage and Goods in Transit insurance, which can be done via their own broker or request a quote from SGL. Storage and Marine/Goods in Transit insurance will only be covered by SWL upon written instructions.
Customers can track and trace their orders via our sophisticated online platform “Boxtrax”.
